Why I love Memphis, er, sports

'Logic before emotion' I like to say, but sometimes in sports there is another way. Men are from Mars and women live sans penis, and the way we follow sports shows another difference between us.

I'm a numbers guy. If a basketball team outrebounds its opponent, takes care of business from the charity stripe, and limits its turnovers I figure it'll win. Those are all quantitative aspects of the game. Las Vegas fast-food stories have nothing to do win my experience of the game.

Kirsten Iverson sees the game in a different light. Have You heard my rule that girlfriends can only talk during commercials? Well that was made for girls like Kirsten, who I've traded emails with the past few days.

Here are my thoughts about Saturday's upcoming Final Four games:

"Can I just tell You how excited I am to see Joey Dorsey (Forward, Memphis) compete in the NBA? That boy is a king among peasants. He won the genetic lottery and should dominate a little piece of the NBA scene for six to seven years, starting with his third pro year. He needs to mature emotionally and get more 'basketball smarts.'

Derrick Rose is an alien. Humans don't do what Derrick Rose does. Can You tell I'm high on Memphis?

Unless the refs give UCLA another ANOTHER another big break with a BS call as regulation expires, Memphis is taking down UNC in the championship for the championship."

That's me. Here are Kirsten's thoughts:

"I am pulling for NC to win. Here's why. I was in a Fat Burger in Las Vegas last November and I met the whole team there.

They were really cool and were playing in a tournament that weekend at UNLV AND they were staying at the same hotel as me too.

Now heck with statistical logistics I'm throwing in the emotional factor.

UCLA is way too cliche so I hope they don't win. But if they do then good for them...if they deserve it!

I've been to Memphis once...but I lost my sweatshirt at the hotel. Soooo emotionally speaking I'm not on the Memphis bandwagon. As for their skills, they are undeniably good!"

That's right folks, she doesn't want Memphis to win because she lost a garment in their hometown. That doesn't even consider the fact that I'm interested in predicting who WILL win while her thought process revolves around who she WANTS to win. Our thought processes don't line up at all.

But that's what I love about sports! You can watch the games for any reason You choose and similarly love or hate any player for any reason. My friend Clintock hates Tony Parker. Why? Because he married Eva Longoria. That's it. That's why.

'Logic before emotion' I like to say, but whatever Your reasons just enjoy every play!

You were there.

Welcome to my website. This page will allow family and friends to stay current on everything I'm doing and thinking, and I hope to make it good enough to serve as a digital portfolio as well.
