Flecks of color

A small achievement, no doubt, but the result of last night's experiment brings joy to my mind that is sure to be understood by none. I'll attempt to explain it regardless.

As explained in one of my previous rants, Circles Closing In, I have a minor preoccupation with my eyes and what I see while they are closed. Last night I achieved a small victory in manipulating my visions.

Instead of alternating circles of dark and light radiating inward and out, last night I observed unparallel waves propagating each in its own direction. This is no great feat; You've seen this all before. However, instead of stopping the visions of dark and light by waking or falling into a deep, dreaming sleep I stayed with the waves, urging them to evolve into whatever visions come next.

Color.

It took a full 20 minutes of focusing, and I only achieved flecks of brilliant color while concentrating my efforts with my right eye, but finally flecks of flashing red appeared within the monochromatic sea of gray.

Then blue!

The flecks were independent of the waves, neither following their motion nor appearing in any regular pattern in relation to them, but appear the color did nonetheless above and within and inside my sightless sight.

Small, rectangular patches standing on end relative to my body's axis, here one moment but gone the next. Red first. Then blue. Yellow.

Why did primary colors come first?

Green next.

Then blackness, and the colors appeared no more.

Rarely do I speak or write of or share these thought experiments with others, but last night's has me feeling warm and fuzzy. This must be how my stuffed walrus felt when I was four.

I'm unsure if others have moments like these. As for me, I'm eager to see what tonight will bring.

Changing speeds, has anyone else noticed that Obama is one of those left-handers who never learned to sign his name without making a capital 'C' with his left arm? Every time he signs a bill in the next four years, part of me is going to cringe.

And honestly, that's the biggest fault I can find in the man to this point.

It's not a pretty sight when Obama wields a pen.

The Associated Press's summary of Obama's first-day activities read like a lifetime unachieved list for Bush. He met with aides, signed bills, closed unConstitutional prison facilities, froze Washington salaries, etc.

Then the man had lunch.

So this is what having a competent president during your adulthood feels like...

Today's video closer is Obama's inauguration speech, just in case You were stranded on a desert island on Tuesday. Enjoy.

Note: Obama has since retaken the presidential oath. This was done out of caution because Chief Justice Roberts fumbled the first attempt.

You were there.
