A great topic for today's rant came to mind yesterday, but before I could write it down it vanished like the hope Obama promised America. What follows is the shit I remembered.
One week ago I had an experience, a close encounter as irony would have it. It happened just after 7 p.m. as I came home from work.
Now understand something: I, although an atheist, believe in ghosts. I've seen them twice in my life, so the door for communication between myself and whatever a ghost may be is always open. I just need a sufficiently abnormal event to catch my attention. If the time is right I'll stop whatever I'm doing to listen.
On February 4, 2009, just after 7 p.m. MST, the time was right.
As I entered my room I heard a faint click behind and to my right. I turned instinctively, not to investigate, just by instinct. I noticed the indicator light on my TV was on, though the screen was blank. But then the screen lit with whatever channel I had watched last.
My TV had just turned on.
Most likely, I thought, I had stepped on the remote's power button, but the clicker lay cold and calm on my bed. Nothing I had done caused the TV to awake. It clearly was time to listen.
On the far wall of my room is a 3ft X 2ft whiteboard for working out math problems and making daily reminders. I walked to the whiteboard, removed the lid off a black dry-erase marker, cleared my thoughts, and asked one question aloud.
"Is somebody here?"
My chin dropped into my chest, lightly touched the marker to whiteboard, and zoned out for what could have been five minutes. I thought about absolutely nothing. Not wind, not women, not worries. Nothing.
"Is somebody here?"
Here's what I wrote:
Sure looks like Yes to me.
Today's video closer is one of my new favorite songs, as performed by amateur Shelley Green. You may recognize it as a Steve Martin original from The Jerk. Enjoy.
Just to little old me!
As an added bonus, here is a twisted soundbite that Travis sent me. Armageddon!
You were there.
